Heights Download Blog

We've asked each of our bands to write us a blog about their adventure so far with Red Bull Bedroom Jam.  Last week we followed up with the Hearts Under Fire girls and You And What Army and now it's time to hear from Heights.

"We hit the road for Donnington, dropped Hutton off on the hard shoulder for a wee and left him there, then stopped at a Tesco to stock up on drinks for the weekend. Oh, and Tesco value tents. Upon arrival at the site we pitched up and had a wander over to the village to soak up some of the festival atmosphere and grab some food before heading back to the campsite for a chilled night. We wanted to be fresh for the following day!

Friday welcomed us with the sound of jet engines and oven hot tents. We all had ice cold showers and headed over to the paddock where our van was firmly put in its place by the massive tour buses. We loaded all our gear into the flatbed to be taken over to the RBBJ stage, then came the first surreal moment of the weekend - we shared a minibus with a very apologetic Killswitch Engage! We even had a chance to watch an awesome set from the guys in Never Means Maybe before it was our time to hit the stage.

Our show was great fun; we played two new songs we’d been working on for the first time, so it was good to get that out of our system. The tent got busier and busier as we played so we were stoked!  We then spent the night having a few beers and meeting a million new people, including one guy who bore a striking resemblance to Jesus.

Saturday arrived with some huge hangovers, but we woke up intent on taking advantage of the free tattoos available. Dean, Moley and Green all indulged whilst Thom got a hair cut like a real man. We were all feeling pretty drained from the high emotions of the previous day so a fair amount of time was spent relaxing watching the legend that is Aerosmith’s Steve Tyler hobble back and forth.

Saturday night brought more drinks and hang outs with some of the Red Bull team and the lovely chaps in Don Broco

Sunday saw yet more hangovers, more cold showers and a fair helping of over priced breakfasts. Ah, the wonders of waking up at a festival. Sunday was also the day Download went all Glastonbury on our asses with a huge rain storm. But that couldn't dampen our spirits for a big old Aerosmith sing-along in the evening.

All in all, a top weekend so... thanks everyone! Hope to see you all again soon."
