Hearts Under Fire's Download Blog

After each of this year's festivals, we'll be asking a couple of our RBBJ Festival Bands to tell us about the event from their point of view. So without further a do, here's Download from the perspective of the girls of Hearts Under Fire...

"A very excited Lexi and Steph set off for Download on Thursday afternoon, with Michael Jackson blaring through the speakers and big smiles on our cheeky faces.  Once reaching our destination, we got our tent-building skills on which was pretty entertaining for those around us - two girls, lots of luggage and not a lot of tent-buildings experience.

"A while later, we introduced ourselves to our Irish neighbours (who were proudly sporting the flag) and dragged them with us to the Download village, immediately attracted to a sign saying ‘Fun House’. Lexi literally couldn’t get enough and found a secret staircase before the exit which allowed her to go on another two times.

"In the morning we bumped into the lovely lads of Heights, and went on to meet the newly-arrived Nicky in the arena to spend the day watching some sick bands including Coheed, Them Crooked Vultures, AC/DC and Heights (who killed it on the RBBJ stage).

"We woke up super-early Saturday morning for showers and got chatting to the lads from Devil Sold His Soul in the queue! We then went on to explore the rest of the guest area and found that it was equipped with a coffee bar, liquor bars, plenty of sofas, bean bags, log fires, etc, all inside a giant teepee!

"We then spent the day watching more awesome bands, including The Plight, Rage Against The Machine, Deftones and No Mean City on the RBBJ stage, who were freakin' amazing. After filming in the beautiful weather with the lovely Red Bull crew, we also got to meet the other RBBJ bands.

"Waking up on Sunday, it was the big day so we went straight to the artist section to scope it out. We'd heard there were tattoo artists there to tattoo you for free, so Lexi got a letter with a few cherry blossoms tattooed on her arm symbolising our EP letters - it looks awesome. Then Nicky got a little bow tattooed behind her ear and Mary got a ship tattooed on her arm.

Unfortunately Steph didn’t have time to get one.. Booooo!

"Whilst in the artist section we saw Slash sitting two tables away, Keith Buckley from ETID and Steel Panther! We got some free hair products, free shoes and met up with our friends from Young Guns before we headed to the RBBJ stage. We ended up getting a shuttle bus with two lads from Dillinger Escape Plan, which was pretty crazy!

"Once arriving at the RBBJ stage we had a little practice, warmed up and waited to go on. To our luck it started to rain just before we were due to play, so the tent was completely packed out. My god were we nervous, but we went on stage and enjoyed every second of it. We had such an amazing response from the crowd we were absolutely overwhelmed. After our set, we took our equipment back and went to enjoy a bit of Areosmith before we had to head home. Booooo!

"Anyway, we are still absolutely buzzing from the weekend and we can’t tell you how grateful we are that we got to play at Download. Over all, we made some amazing friends, hopefully gained some new listeners, got to play Download festival and had the best weekend of our lifes. Thanks RBBJ!"
